Vidarbha is building on its established industrial base with new opportunities in advanced manufacturing, multimodal logistics and clean energy. Nagpur's central location, industrial infrastructure and growing public- and private-sector investment are strengthening the region's role in Maharashtra's next phase of industrial development.
Nagpur has an established defence-manufacturing base and a growing aerospace ecosystem. MIDC identifies Nagpur as an emerging aerospace hub, supported by MIHAN and the Dhirubhai Ambani Aerospace Park. Maharashtra's Aerospace & Defence policy also identifies development of Nagpur's aviation and aerospace ecosystem as a strategic priority.
Ordnance Factory Ambajhari, a unit of Yantra India Limited, manufactures ammunition hardware including shells, cartridge cases, fuzes, rockets and primers, along with special aluminium alloys and assault bridges. Yantra India Limited itself is headquartered at Ambazari, Nagpur, giving the city an established presence within India's public-sector defence manufacturing network.
Private defence manufacturing is also expanding. In January 2026, a new fully automated 30 mm ammunition manufacturing facility was inaugurated at Solar Defence & Aerospace Limited in Nagpur; the company's Nagpur operations also include Pinaka rocket manufacturing. Nagpur's broader aerospace capabilities are developing at MIHAN as well. Dassault Aviation and Reliance are expanding aircraft manufacturing there, with a final assembly line planned for the Falcon 2000 business jet and the first locally assembled aircraft targeted for flight in 2028. The Falcon project is civil aerospace rather than defence, but it demonstrates the advanced aerospace-manufacturing capabilities developing in Nagpur.

Growing advanced aerospace capabilities at MIHAN
Nagpur’s central location is being reinforced by new multimodal infrastructure. The Multi Modal Logistics Park at Sindi near Wardha commenced commercial operations in April 2025, bringing together road, rail, warehousing and cargo-handling infrastructure for the wider region.
The Nagpur MMLP spans around 150 acres with an estimated investment of ₹673 crore. Strategically linked to the Samruddhi Mahamarg, NH-361 and the Howrah–Nagpur–Mumbai rail corridor, it will support industries across Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur and Gondia.
The hub will offer warehousing, cold storage, cargo handling, customs, truck terminals and other value-added logistics services.
MIHAN further strengthens Nagpur’s logistics proposition by integrating an international airport with an SEZ, industrial development and transport infrastructure. Its official development framework includes road and rail connectivity, a rail terminal/dry-port facility, truck terminals and logistics-sector space within the SEZ.
